The villa

Villa Val di Romana is a historic residence, nested in the rolling landscape of Val di Chiana.

A private and charming location, a few minutes away from Arezzo, surrounded by an olive grove and woodland, is the perfect venue for both private and corporate events, offering an authentic and natural environment for an unforgettable experience.

Originally built as a Benedictine monastery monastero benedettino, the villa has changed its purpose over the centuries, becoming a private residence while keeping its charm and the authentic character intact,

Our History

Our History Originally built in the 13th century to house a small group of hermit friars, Villa Val Romana preserved its function as a monastery for approximately six centuries. During this time, it belonged primarily to the Benedictine monastic order, who cultivated the surrounding lands and made numerous structural improvements. Given its strategic position, records show that in 1464 the property was also used as a safe place to escape the plague that dramatically struck our region during those years.

However, it was the Napoleonic rule that changed its purpose from religious to secular. The monastery was officially suppressed in 1820. The abolition of religious orders and the confiscation of their assets led the villa through various ownership changes, until it was purchased by Mr. Ettore Balbi on January 10, 1900. The building, its lands and related outbuildings were intended to form the dowry for his daughter, Bianca.

From that moment on, the property remained in the hands of the family. Bianca Balbi went on to marry Dr. Antonio Nuti, whom she met while serving as a nurse during the First World War.

The family used the estate as a private residence and a hunting lodge, reserving the central section for themselves and dedicating the two side wings to the families who worked the land and managed the estate.

The structure has been recently restored, allowing the property to be experienced with modern standards and comforts without sacrificing its authenticity and historical value.

The Spaces

On the first floor, overlooking the forest and the hill, the living spaces are developed, today organized to guarantee privacy, silence and continuity with the surrounding landscape. On the ground floor there are historic rooms such as the chapel, the cellars and the ancient mill, still characterized by original press and millstone.

The external spaces of Villa Val di Romana develop around the internal courtyard, the heart of the complex, delimited by the central body and the two lateral structures,
A collected and evocative environment, characterised by the large loggia and overlooking the surrounding hilly landscape.

The courtyard and outdoor areas offer several points that can be used for outdoor events, in continuity with the historic rooms on the ground floor, such as the ancient mill and cellars.
The natural setting, surrounded by olive groves and forest, makes the outdoor spaces ideal for hosting convivial moments immersed in the tranquility of the countryside.
